Quash
I don’t like being anywhere anymore unless I know exactly
how far away you are. This diluted proximity appeases my longing; it tricks it.
By the way, the word of the day is ‘quash’, but please don’t
make me use it in a sentence. It means to nullify. We’ve had better I know, but
by the time you get this there will have been more. I’ll put them in our word
box and shuffle them every day until you pick them one by one and I hear what
they really sound like.

P.S.: This was written for and sent to a literary journal that publishes short fiction and non-fiction in the form of a postcard. They rejected it. Boo.Freaking.Hoo. I still think it's one of the best stories I've ever written.
Enjoy!
